Russell Brand has denied allegations that he sexually assaulted a woman on a film set, stating that the accuser has a faulty memory of the events. The woman filed a civil lawsuit in November, claiming that Brand exposed himself and assaulted her while filming Arthur in 2010. However, Brand’s lawyers argue that the lawsuit is based on the false claim that he was visibly intoxicated at the time. They state that although he was playing a drunk character in the film, he was sober in reality. The lawyers suggest that the woman was unable to distinguish between acting and reality.
In her lawsuit, the woman alleges that Brand appeared intoxicated, smelled of alcohol, and was carrying a bottle of vodka on set. She claims that he exposed himself in front of the cast and crew, and later assaulted her in the bathroom while a member of the production crew guarded the door. Brand denies these allegations, stating that he does not recognize the woman’s name or photo, and does not remember interacting with her.
Brand’s lawyers argue that his role in the film required him to act drunk, but he did not consume any alcohol or drugs during production. They explain that the “open alcohol bottle” mentioned by the woman was actually a prop for the film. They also point out that the woman’s faulty memory of events that allegedly occurred over 13 years ago is fatal to her claims.
In addition to this lawsuit, Brand is also facing other accusations of rape, sexual assault, and emotional abuse between 2006 and 2013. The Metropolitan Police in London have questioned him in relation to nine alleged offenses, and their inquiries are ongoing. Brand has consistently maintained that his relationships have always been consensual.
