Emmanuel Odunlami was celebrating his 32nd birthday when he was fatally stabbed by a gang of robbers. They targeted him because he was wearing a fake designer watch. Jordell Menzies was convicted of murder and robbery and received a life sentence with a minimum term of 31 years. Louis Vandrose, Quincy Ffrench, and Kavindu Hettiarachchi were jailed for manslaughter and robbery. Vandrose and Ffrench were sentenced to 15 years, while Hettiarachchi was jailed for 13 years.
The security guard, Hettiarachchi, noticed that Mr. Odunlami was wearing a fake watch worth around £125,000. He tipped off his accomplices who attacked Mr. Odunlami and stole the watch. Mr. Odunlami’s fiancee, Rajbir Kaur, expressed her grief and said that their two sons were deeply affected by the loss of their father.
In court, Judge Patrick Field KC acknowledged the profound grief felt by Mr. Odunlami’s loved ones. He stated that there was no sentence that could alleviate their pain. Another man, Antonios Kfoury, was found guilty of perverting the course of justice and received an 18-month custodial sentence.
