Iran says it didn’t do a drone attack that killed three US troops in Jordan, near the Syrian border. The US thinks groups supported by Iran are responsible. President Biden promises to respond. It’s the first time US troops died in the area since October’s attack by Hamas on Israel. Before this, there were attacks on US bases, but no one got hurt.

It’s unclear who did this latest attack. Biden says the US will make those responsible pay. Iran denies supporting the groups blamed for the attack. Biden got briefed about the attack and expressed sorrow for the fallen soldiers.

The injured soldiers are being checked for brain injuries, and some were taken for more treatment. The drone hit their living area, which could explain why there are many casualties. The attack happened in northeastern Jordan near the Syrian border at a place called Tower 22.

In December, US bases in Iraq and Syria were attacked many times. Last month, the US attacked Iran-related groups after a drone hit a base in Iraq, injuring US soldiers. Earlier in January, a US strike in Baghdad killed a militia leader linked to attacks on US personnel.

General CQ Brown, in an interview, said the US wants to avoid a bigger conflict in the region. US troops are in the Red Sea because Iran-backed Houthis are attacking ships. The Houthis say they’re doing it to support Palestinians in Gaza. The US military says it has nothing to do with the Gaza conflict.
