Elon Musk has shared that his company, Neuralink, has successfully implanted a wireless brain chip in a person for the first time. The initial results show promising signals from the neurons, and the patient is recovering well.
Neuralink aims to connect human brains to computers to help address complex neurological conditions. The company received approval from the US Food and Drug Administration in May to conduct human testing, marking a significant milestone. The experimental implant, using thin threads on a part of the brain controlling movement, can wirelessly record and transmit brain signals to an app. Elon Musk envisions the first product, called Telepathy, allowing users to control devices with their thoughts, starting with those who have lost limb functionality.
While Musk’s Neuralink gains attention, other companies, such as Blackrock Neurotech and Precision Neuroscience, also work on brain-computer interfaces to assist people with paralysis. Recent studies using similar devices have shown promising results in monitoring brain activity for communication purposes.
